Description

Offering a homebrew, 2 tube single stage 10 meter linear amp. Rated in the 100 watt class but will easily do more ( depending on drive).
Includes not 1, not 2 not 3 but 4 sets of tubes ! ( 1 set of full output used and 3 sets of NOS ) That's 8 tubes total !!!!
For several years, I would go to yard sales, estate sales , ham swap meets etc. and pick up old sweep tube amps. My hobby was to restore or rebuild them. Now I have a pile of them and need to clear out some space.
This was someone's "homebrew" but it appears to be of very good quality however, I did a complete service and a few upgrades to make it even better. ( about 10 years ago )
This is a Yeasu FT-101 case.
Selling at my "break even" price so don't let the price fool you. I can always charge you more if you want !
Now, to be CLEAR.....the input and output numbers that I give, are measured with a Bird watt meter in AVERAGE mode !!!! At the end of this, I will give you PEP numbers but for the bulk of this listing, the numbers given are in the AVERAGE mode !!!! ( I think some people call this "Bird watts" ?????)
Using a standard BIRD wattmeter :
My radio was set in A.M. mode .... NO modulation. ( Dead key carrier conditions) it read 6.5 watts .....let's call it 7 watts output.
So....7 watts into the amp, and an honest and solid 100 watts output !
I feel that this amp should safely handle 20-30 watts of input....but I personally would choose to keep it BELOW 20 watts input.  To repeat...that's 20-30 watts of AVERAGE input even WITH your peak swing in AVERAGE mode..... not a dead key of 20-30 and then swing it to 120 ! But then again, it's your amp, do whatever foolishness you want !!! You'll have 3 more sets of tubes to fry...............
This amp originally had 6 volt heater tubes but since the 6 volt tubes are more expensive and getting more and more scarce,  I converted it to a 40 volt tube ( 40KD6 ). ..... plus, I had plenty of them and they are plentiful and cheap here on Ebay.
SIDE NOTE: There is no difference between a 36KD6 and a 40KD6. They will directly interchange. In fact, some tubes are actually labeled from the manufacturer as " 36/40KD6" !
Features include:
First and VERY IMPORTANT.....The band switch is wired in a way that only allows 10 meter operation. It does turn and index to several positions but will only transmit on 10M. Use ANY position! There is only 1 tap on the tank coil but it looks like the tank coil has enough extra to do 15M if you wire it correctly.
Tuned input ! ( your input SWR should read very low between radio and amplifier) and basically ALL of your power, is making it to the tubes AND your signal will be cleaner.
Cathode bias.
AM and SSB modes.
RF or AUTO keying.
Relative output / tuning meter
Meter is illuminated white.
Very quiet cooling fan.
The rectifier is of the "old school" design with each diode having a disc capacitor and a resistor across it.
It wasn't broke so it was left alone. I did upgrade the filter capacitors to 3x 1500mfd@450v in series, so the net capacity is 500mfd @ 1350VDC. That'll get the job done!
All bare aluminum surfaces have that " engine turned" treatment so it hides fingerprints and scratches , nicely. I guess the photos can tell the story better than I can.
I have used this amp a fair amount myself and it was also loaned to a few friends for a while. It has been 100% reliable and there has never been a failure since the initial rebuild. It is STILL using the original set of tubes that I installed from the beginning....... and these tubes are still at full output !
No dents or dings but you can expect a few scuffs from handling and the outside of the case, could use a repaint but you won't need to do any "bodywork" !
This thing is clean, tidy, well made, reliable and EVERYTHING works as it should and it will look good next to your radio
OK OK....now the PEP numbers :
Same radio , same everything but with the Bird meter now set to PEP :
Dead key @ 7 watts.....modulated ( swings) to an honest 21 watts of input to the amp.......Re peak the LOAD knob while being modulated.........a generous 200 watts PEP  out of the amp !
These numbers are with my radio, my watt meter, my dummy load, my cables and my mains voltage. Your numbers will likely be different but MY equipment is quite honest and my equipment wins any discrepancy .
I've dealt with my fair share of parts swappers and window shoppers when it comes to radio equipment.... so there will be no more returns or refunds. Sorry. We are all stuck with paying the price now, for what a few people will do to this seller.
You will receive the exact items in the photos
Tubes will be removed from the sockets for shipment and everything will be double boxed ( this ain't my first rodeo)
