Description
VINTAGE ALINCO ELH-300D UHF AMPLIFIERI acquired some gear from the estate of a deceased ham radio operator who took meticulous care of his gear. I am selling this 440mh/70cm amplified as I do not need it. I have not been able to find documentation such as owner manual, schematics, etc. It does however appear to have similar design and features as the Alinco ELH 230D 2 meter amplifier for which I found a review from CQ Magazine December 1985 online, with schematic. The amplifier is in very nice physical condition. See photos. The factory warranty seal is intact.
I do not have the bench test equipment, dummy load or antenna to check operation, but it powers up and the switches activate the LEDs. See photos. This item is listed as "For parts working or not" and sold as-is because I cannot perform the necessary testing. Don't have the equipment. I care about my buyers, so I do allow 30 day returns at the buyers cost and in this instance also payment of outgoing shipping as it is being sold with free shipping. If after you receive the item and do your own research you decide to return it, the factory warranty seal (showing case unopened) which is intact must not have been cut or removed.
The prior owner had marked the back as "1 in 10 out" and "3 in 30 out" and 6.5 amp draw on transmit. The design of this ELH-300D and the look very similar so it's likely that the features and operation are similar. The amplifier's gray wraparound cabinet features a full length heatsink on top. It measures approximately 7 x 3 1/2 x 1 1/2 and weighs about 1.5 pounds.
The front panel is black with two switches and four LEDs. The switches control receive pre-amp on and off, transmit amplifier on and and energizing a 10 volt output on the rear panel. LEDs indicate power, transmission-air, receive preamp enabled and 10 volt output line. There is a flush mounted slide switch on the cabinet's bottom that selects "fast" or "slow". Fast is used for FM while slow would minimize relay dropout between words on SSB.
The rear panel has SO-239 input and output connections, a small molex socket for power connection plus a coaxial jack for the 10 volt output. I have been unable to identify the part number for the molex connector and no supplier has any info. Always an issue with vintage gear. I am unable to determine the purpose of the blue center wire which was wrapped around the positive and negative 12 volt wires and covered with tape but not connected. See the photo. The owner had that taped with white tape. As I don't have a
schematic
, don't know what that is and did not want to break open the factory seal to examine.
The fused power cord is included as is the 12 volt cigarette lighter plug attachment. Apparently the 10 volt output on the back was in some way used to supply power for some handheld devices.
