Texas Star Modulator V Plus Amplifier – Amplifier Works

I am helping out with the estate of a good friend of mine who was a ham radio operator and collected vintage gear for many years.
I will be listing his equipment during the coming weeks and months.
Here is a Texas Star Modulator V Plus amplifier and receive preamplifier.
I tested it and verified the amplifier is working.
Four watts input gave me 40 watts output on AM.
This unit uses a Toshiba 2SC2290 output transistor.
I do not have a peak reading watt mater but the output appeared to be approaching over 80 watts on SSB voice peaks.
I took a photo of the AM output on both my Drake W-4 and Micronta wattmeters.
The receive preamplifier is not working properly as the S-meter signal strength goes down a little when you switch the preamp in the line.
I understand this is usually due to transistor Q2 or diode D2 needing to be replaced but I’ll leave that to someone more familiar with these amps than I am.
Cosmetically, the amplifier is in pretty nice condition.
Both lamps work and the case is not all scratched up.
Someone did drill two holes in the top, probably to install the amp under a dashboard or shelf.
I have provided plenty of photos so you can see exactly what you are bidding on.
While I have described this amplifier as accurately as possible, please note that such equipment is best enjoyed by those with an understanding of electronics and the ability/equipment to work on them.
This unit may require an alignment or other work to obtain peak performance.
There are also potentially dangerous voltages present and only an experienced and qualified person should attempt any repairs.
